Every one of your senses comes to life when on foot in the bush. Your walking safari takes on a whole new perspective. We specialize in giving you this option. Located alongside the Makhutswi River, you are perfectly situated to do a variety of walks depending on your desires. Our Trained walking rangers and trackers, love nothing better than sharing their knowledge with this amazing world with you first hand. Feel the African earth beneath your feet; touch the bark of a thousand-year-old Jackalberry tree as you walk under its timeless canopy; smell the musky scent of waterbuck in the vicinity; or the sweet grass of the veld; and hear the kudu’s alarm bark, knowing you are never alone.
Walking safely is always our primary concern, together with ensuring a special experience. No walks for children under 12 years. Your field ranger and tracker are true specialists at this and will brief and explain every scenario to you, putting you at ease to enjoy the experience.
Walks are generally substituted for that morning´s or afternoon´s game drive.
You take your time, there is no ‘typical’ walking safari at Toro River Lodges. Here you will learn the art of tracking, the signs of the bush, enjoying the smaller insects, vegetation, birds, geology, and micro-cosmos you do not so easily experience from the vehicle…Africa is another world on foot!
• Comfortable walking shoes
• Sunscreen and hats
• Binoculars & camera
• Suitably colored clothing (khaki, olives, and browns are always good on safari, no bright colors)
